In a galaxy far, far away, I spent the week before Christmas undergoing two dental surgeries in just two days. The second, more serious, one required the anesthetic Propofol. Thanks to my anesthesiologist, I had the most wonderful Star Wars adventure zooming through space and battling Storm Troopers.
I awoke to find my arms tied down. Apparently my arms and legs had been flailing all about as I fought off the surgeon during my space battle. But all’s well that ends well and everything ended just peachy, especially since I’d returned to Georgia and the medical team that had treated me when a similar problem attacked me.
Starting in 2005, I experienced a massive health challenge that involved an infection in the upper part of my face. Those of you who have read my first blog post titled “Change Your Life” know how ill I was. Three years later, I had extensive reconstructive surgery involving five titanium plates and 26 screws to help support bone degeneration. Even though I trusted my doctors and knew how highly skilled they were, I didn’t know if I would survive that serious five-hour surgery.
Since 2008, I have been back on a positive health track and for the most part doing much better. This past September, however, my dentist discovered something unusual with one of my teeth. He referred me to an endodontist here in San Francisco. A CAT scan of my face and jaw revealed an odd shadow near a screw in my chin.
The discovery devastated me. The infection was back? The thought of another long painful recovery period filled me with dread. All kinds of scenarios played out in my head including weeks of my jaw being wired shut again. The possibility that I would shed a few pounds, although not in a healthy way, did little to help.
Back home in Georgia, my familiar medical team welcomed me, and worked me in for several diagnostic appointments, sometimes after hours. Within a 48 hour period I had been properly diagnosed. An infection like the prior one in my upper facial area had settled in my chin bone. The infection, which had grown, had likely been festering for several years. Worse, it was a teeny tiny micro spec away from making a home on a screw—called hardware by the professionals—where it would have travelled all across my face and been nearly impossible to stop.
The two surgeries followed immediately. Talk about in the nick of time. St. Nick. Yes, getting that stuff out of my face before it took over was truly the best Christmas present ever. That wasn’t the only gift. The dentists and surgeons remarked on how clean my mouth was.
“Your gums are in excellent condition,” they each announced. “Even with this infection there is no swelling.”
I must attribute this success story to the Rain Soul Seeds. My teeth and gums are healthier than they’ve ever been even with a mouthful of dental work and crowns and a raging infection. The two surgeries healed quickly without a problem and I was told I come back a month earlier than normally prescribed to finish up with the new implant.
Although I’ve had to chew slowly and am not eating hard or sharp foods, I’ve enjoyed this Christmas being home on the east coast more than any I can remember in recent history. Oh, and as for the healing, I gently rubbed the Rain Soul Seeds on the surgery area and there was barely any swelling at all. The ride on the anesthesia train was just a bonus. After my own personal preview, I can’t wait for the new Star Wars movie!
Happy New Year, everyone! May you all have great health and good fun in 2015.
You’ve learn how to take care of all the problems that pop up with your health. You are one stubborn lady who will not let things take you down. Keep it up.
